Padma Bridge Paragraph 150 Words
The Padma Multipurpose Bridge is a significant development for the millions of people residing in the southwestern region of Bangladesh. Before the bridge’s construction, the districts in this area were cut off from the country’s primary economic hub, the Dhaka-Chattogram economic corridor.
Before the bridge, people had to rely on ferries, launches, and boats to traverse the Padma River to reach these districts. Due to inadequate transportation and connectivity, businesses faced challenges thriving in the southwestern area.
These districts lacked substantial industrial presence. However, the bridge has successfully linked the previously isolated 21 southwestern districts to the mainstream economy.
The enhanced transportation facilitated by the bridge is expected to bring about new business opportunities, benefiting both agriculture and industry in the region.
Furthermore, the influx of tourists is now on the rise, contributing to the growth of the hospitality industry in the region.
Padma Bridge Paragraph 300 Words
The Padma Multipurpose Bridge is Bangladesh’s longest bridge, marking a significant achievement as the country’s largest self-financed project without relying on foreign aid. This monumental structure, spanning the Padma-Brahmaputra-Meghna river basin, consists of 42 pillars and 41 spans, each measuring 150 meters in length.
With a total length of 6.15 km and a width of 18.10 meters, the bridge connects Mawa in Munshiganj district to Jajira in Shariatpur district, featuring two levels—an upper-level housing a four-lane roadway and a lower level hosting a railway track.
The comprehensive design of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge was orchestrated by a team of international and national consultants led by AECOM. The construction contract was awarded to China Major Bridge, a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited.
Commencing on November 26, 2014, the construction concluded on June 23, 2022, with the official inauguration taking place on June 25, 2022. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina marked the occasion by personally traversing the bridge for the first time, paying the toll at the Mawa end.
Despite the withdrawal of support from the World Bank and donor groups due to corruption allegations, the Bangladesh government persevered, funding the entire construction at Rs 30,193.39 crore.
The Mawa-Jazira connection established by the Padma Multipurpose Bridge serves as a direct link between the central and southwestern parts of Bangladesh. This strategic infrastructure is poised to significantly boost the social, economic, and industrial development of the relatively underdeveloped region, directly benefiting over 3 crore people across an area of approximately 30,000 sq km (17,000 sq mi), which constitutes 29% of Bangladesh’s total area. This ambitious project is expected to enhance Bangladesh’s GDP by 1.2 percent.
Beyond its national impact, the Padma Bridge plays a crucial role in fostering regional connectivity and contributing to the economic development of Asia and Southeast Asia. The realization of this project has fulfilled the dreams of countless individuals, marking the commencement of a new era of communication in Bangladesh with the inauguration of the Padma Bridge.
